helpful tips for rome

Superbluedub, how was your few days away? I'm just back from Rome too, managed to see the Spanish Steps, Trevi fountain, pantheon, colosseum, Piazza Navona. Out of interest, did you manage to get a taxi from Campino to the city? We waited for one for a while but couldnt' see any anywhere so ended up getting one of the bus transfers in instead - Eur8 for two of us.

Biggest rip off was a small cafe bar type place we went into and asked for two large beers (going on the sizes we'd had in other restaurants) - anyway they brought over glasses that must have been 2 pints each and then charged us Eur26!!! D'oh!

Very suprisedyou couldn't see taxis at theairport; when we were last there there were scores of them.

We went with Ryanair to Ciampino. You can take a bus from outside the airport to the local station in Ciampino itself - cost one euro. Then the underground into Rome - cheap and very quick. Most people don't know about taking this route. Very handy.

Check out Eden Walks in Rome, we did a 3 hour tour of the Vatican and it was excellent....Also to get your barings take an open top tour bus gives you a great overview of the city and you get to see all the main site locations and can plan exactly how you want to visit them on site. St Peters and the Vatican were the highlights for me.
