Hi everybody.
I would like to ask a question, hopefully i wont sound too stupid  Its just that i am a completele mess when it comes to this subject.
Basically, upon leaving Uk i would like to get my tax issues sorted and leave the country with clean slate.
I worked for an employer from 1.10.2005 till 31st of july last year - getting payslips, P60s, paying taxes and NIN contributions, received P45 when leaving employment. That si alright. But the yaer before that, I had worked for the same employer: some 15-20 hours per week, getting paid only cash in hand. I worked only those hours because i had suffered from bad deppression and psychosis -was also treated as an outpatient in mental health centre, and put on medications for next 4 years. My psychiatrist thought it would be a good idea to "keep in touch with reality" by working few hours per week..As my health improved with time i started to work full time for the same employer and was put on payroll. I would like to ask anyone...is there going to be a problem for that one year when my employer (therefore also myself) wasnt paying any taxes. My total in that year was anyway less than the personal allowance for that particular tax year, but I assume I still should have been given payslips and all that. If there is going to be a problem, I would also be happy to pay back what I owe (if I do) for that time.
Does anyone know how to go about that, and how much should i be expecting to pay? What shall I do?
Please any help will be appreciated.
Thank you all very much.

Sorry for all the problems you've had, but are you a UK resident? AAM is an Irish based site and if all of your earnings and tax dealings are in the UK you might not get the most appropriate answers from here.

The solution may be to register as self employed in the UK for that year. You will still be allowed your personal allowances so there shouldnt be much (if any) tax payable providing you didnt have any other taxable income. You can do this online through the HM Customs website at the following address:
www.hmrc.gov.uk/selfemployed or telephone this helpline and they should be able to assist you:
