Help with German Tax Return

I was going to use a well known Irish company - not sure if I'm allowed name them ? - to do my German tax return. The price I was quoted last yr for this service was €285 but this year it's...... €595 !

Now I only own 1 apt & the monthly rent is €473 so the €595 is a huge chunk of my annual income. Can anyone recommend someone reputable who's a bit more reasonable ? If I even had someone who can translate the forms I could do it myself as I understand the underlying principles. I don't mind paying for services but if I owned a whole building I think the €595 might be more understandable !

Did you ask for the reasons behind the significant price hike, which is slightly more than the rise in the cost of living?

If they told you this upfront, I don't see what your problem is?

Why indeed? Providers are well entitled to set whatever price they wish for their services. There is no law to say a price cannot be doubled, tripled or halved. Once the customer becomes aware of the price increase, they are welcome to go elsewhere if they wish.

Absolutely! And no problem either with helping the customer to become aware of these increased prices, so prospective clients can choose to look around for better value. Unless all service providers have doubled their price in a year, in which case one would be drawing the attention of the competition authority to suspicious behaviour.

Indeed, if better value can be found. I'm not sure that there are that many Irish-based tax experts and accountants out there who are cutting each others throats to do German tax returns. My guess is that very few would have the specific expertise and language skills to take on such work - hence the probability of high prices.

Try these for a price http://www.ptireturns.com/. I am not sure how much they charge or what their service is like, but I have come across them many times as I am in the overseas property business. They have an office in Dublin & Kilkenny and also in Germany.
