Help with Form 11

Hi,

I worked PAYE for part of last year, and the rest as an employee of a foreign company, still resident here and have paid no income tax yet on this income. The tax office told me to fill out form 11. This is my first time dong any tax returns myself.

I'm quite annoyed that I've just realised I've missed the August 31st deadline for the revenue calculating my liability. I think I've the form almost complete now, I'm as far as section K, but I don't quite understand this. What does "short notice of assessment" actually mean? what is the alternative?

Am I supposed to do the calculations with the guide they provide, and fill in what I owe on line 703 and then send back the form? Do they then send me on a payslip so I can actually pay the balance? or is there something I need to do now that I'm after August 31st?

As it is after the 31st you are supposed to do the calculation yourself and send in any extra liability (the the money) on/before the 31st of October.

What you could do is download the 'ROS Offline Application' from the Downloads section of the ROS site. It is a horrible Java application and a bit temperamental to install under Vista, but you can use it to download and fill in an electronic Form 11 on your PC which will do the calculation for you.

Thanks a million for that! I had no idea there was an offline program, it installed fine for me and saved me a lot of pen and paper work :)

So now I fill in my balance payable in section K, send off the form and they'll send me some kind of payslip?

fpalb,
Somehow, I doubt that it will as straightforward as that. I tried to do that a few years ago and the Revenue sent the form back to me saying that it was not an acceptable form.
Perhaps rules have now changed and the form will be accepted like that. You can sure try and send it first. Or you can enquire by phone as to what you need to do.

That is very helpful, hadn't noticed this before either. I have installed this but there doesn't appear to be a Form 12 available? I am PAYE and only have relatively small rental income to declare. Is there anyway of getting an offline Form 12?

For F12 you need to register for PAYE anytime on ROS www.ros.ie. There si some paperwork to file to get PIN etc. then you can file online.

I tried to fill in an electronic form 12 last year. It wasn't available then on revenue online (I actually rang them about it), so had to do the paper version instead. Has something changed since then?
