Hi, been renting for the last six years and putting in a back claim. I have read on the other threads (and just want to double check!), I can only back claim for up to 4 years ie 2007,06,05,04 . I can't claim for 2002/2003. I apply for 2008 as the current year then? Also from other thread, it looks like I will only get 20% of 2000 euro back per year - so a refund of 1600 euro for the four years is to be expected?. Is that correct?. Two of us have been sharing the rent (400 per month each) so both of us should expect 1600 each?. I just want to make sure, the landlord has made it difficult for us to claim but now we are moving on and have read on other posts that it is possible to claim without landlords ppsn. Great site, I would really appreciate any help with working out what we are entitled to as landlord says it is very little and not worth claimimg for!!

It's all worth claiming for in my opinion. Not sure of the ins and outs but am confident the fine people on this site will help you out.

Under the four year rule you may claim for 2004 onwards only. As the rent paid exceeds the maximum relief you'll get the maximum. For 2008 it is €400. 2007 was €360. 2006 was €330. The earlier 2 years may have been a bit less also so it's the rate for the year that you'll get. The landlords PPS no. is not required. It's all worth claiming regardless of what the landlord says.

Bear in mind that on a review of your liability for the years in question you will get the amount due provided there are no tax underpayments otherwise.

Hi, thanks very much for the advice. That really clears things up, will definitely go ahead with the claim. Great to know for definite that I don't need the landlords pps.!
