Help needed with MS Excel

I have created a spreadsheet within Excel. Column A will have peoples' names. I need to fix this column so that the information in the following columns slides underneath it i.e. when I scroll to the right, column A will always be visible to me.

In your view menu (or window menu for older versions) there is an option to create a split. You can drag the bars that appear to have column A one side and everything else the other.

"Window"-"Freeze Panes" is the option you want.

Just to add to Ccovich's post - the panes will freeze to the left and on the top of the cell you click into, so if you only want the first left column to be fixed click into B1. If you want the first left column and top row, click into B2 and then on "freeze panes".
