Help Needed with a 1997 Renault Megane

Hi,

I am currently having major problems with the immobiliser on my car. The central locking does not work using the key therefore i have no way of disarming the immobiliser. To start my car i have to enter a 4 digit code which is very annoying to say the least. I can't afford to go to a rip off main dealer. Has anyone got any ideas to help me? Appreciate it...

Might be asking the obvious, but have you tried changing the battery in the key, or using the spare one?

Changed batteries twice on both keys and still no luck the main dealer will charge around €100 just to look at it because of the awkwardness of taking the part out. A new key is €200 and i was told it could go wrong again tomorrow...

I have heard that water can seap in through the aerial which will short-fuse the immoboliser component on the roof of the inside of the car. Try taking it out to see if it appears to be burnt in which case it has been short fused and a replacement will be required.
