Can anybody advise me as to where, in Dublin, I can get a leather jacket cleaned. Thanks

Ring them and ask if they clean leather. They are one of the more reputable cleaners. Would imagine leather won't be too cheap to clean though.

Can they bring the leather back to life into its original condition or is that a different issue from cleaning ?

I'm asking because I have a very expensive jacket I havent worn for a long time. Its been in the closet for nearly 5 years and seems kind of different to how it used to be.

As New York cleaners is not too far from Christ Church take it in and ask them to have a look and see what they think.

Thanks. I should probably do that.

Leather sometimes dries out.
I bought a cream in Arnotts a while ago and restored leather shoes back to life by applying it and leaving it over night. It worked wonderfully.

The leather jacket however is a much larger and more complicated task.

Saddle soap or dubbin perhaps?

I cant remember what it was called and cant find whats left of it

I pointed to similar shoes to mine while in Arnotts and one of the staff helped me by suggesting some kind of cream in a tin which is applied and left for a few hours.
It really did a fantastic job as the leather was structurally sound but had dried out while in storage. Apparently different kinds of cream are more suited depending on the type of leather.

On a dry, non windy day (whenever we get such a thing ) put the jacket/coat on a hanger & zip it up & put it on your clothes line. Then get "Son of a Gun" & spray over it. Leave for a minute or two and then rub with sheets of "Bounty". The leather comes up great. The lining is another thing, but this really does do the job, for a fraction of the cost of a specialist leather cleaning which last time cost me €30.00.

Would the same work on a suede jacket that has a parfin oil stain on it?

Ugh, nasty. You may find something on I'm just wondering if the usual trick of using an iron and brown paper would work. The iron would definitely need to be cool rather than very hot.

Tried the iron on brown paper but it didnt work.

Saddle soap is just the trick for any leather, I've found, except for suedes and nubuck. Dubbin is for football boots only I'd have thought, it's messy stuff anyway and would transfer to your clothes as well........
