Hello am new here,

please i need your help. My husband and i don't know what to do.
Am on Jobseekers Allowance and my husband + children are under my claim.
My husband recently just got his taxi licence and he wants to become self employed.
Now my question is can social welfare still support us + with the rent allowance, please?

If yes, please does anybody know what we have to apply for?

Thank-you for taking your time in reading my message.

GOD bless.

Lilly.

You may still have an entitlement to some Jobseeker's allowance, but you will have to declare that your husband will be working - his earnings (or estimated earnings) will be assessed. You could ask if your husband is eligible for a Back to Work Enterprise Allowance, based on the fact that he was a qualified adult on your claim (he would have to meet certain conditions - see these operational guidelines for information : http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Back-to-Work-Enterprise-Allowance-Self-Employed.aspx )

Rent supplement is not generally payable to persons (or spouse/partners of persons) in full-time employment. There are some exceptions. You will need to discuss your situation with your Rent Office.
