Help in getting back to work

Any help at all here would be great... I am a public servant not the desk job end and I have been out of work for some time with a life threathening illness which thankfully has subsided, I cannot return to my full time role due to physical aspect etc etc and hope to return part time in the near future. I was hoping that I would qualify for the back to work allowance to assist with childcare and shortfall etc until I got back on my feet and have been told that I will not qualify as I am not returning to a new job and contract. I am baffled as to why there is no incentive in helping people like me get back to work as I am and will be better off if I continue to stay off ?? I just dont understand and wonder can I take this issue up with anyone else

Are you on Illness Benefit ?

I was switched to invalidity pension last year but always planned to go back to work at some stage, the problem as I know it is that I need to have a new contract ?? I will be changing to a more sedentary role when I do go back but getting a new contract etc in the civil service just does not happen, I could get the reducing benefits of the back to work allowance if I was to leave and start somewhere else but this is not an option as all life, health insurance etc is tied into my job and nobody will go near me after what I have been through so these all need to be kept in tack....I called before and was told yes but today I gave more information pps etc and they said no verbally of course

Have you explored the possibility of getting exemption from losing Inv Pension on the basis that your work will be rehabilitative? See here under disqualifications and exemptions

thats interesting alright and thanks for pointing that out, it could be a long shot but at least it would get me back with some support, I assume given the exemption below it that getting paid from this work source would be ok too? I am also sure that the inv pension would not be/ nor should I think it should be paid indefinately ? I dont mind telling you that I had multiple surgeries and more besides for Cancer and am really not on full speed as before so it might just fit the bill

Thank you so so much welfarite you have given great information there, I got onto the invalidity section this morning and it appears that the exemption might just be a realistic option for when i go back so I just need to get around my employers but I am sure I will be backed up by numerous consultants thanks again

It's my understanding that the exemption will only apply for about 6 months - that is designed to get people back to full-time work, not subsidise part-time. Is that what you were told?

The maximum hours that can be worked under the exemption are 20, so that might suit you.
Don't know if this the norm but we had a guy working with us at 20 hours a week for 3 years of so while on Invalidity Pension.
By the way your age may be relevant here but I don't like to ask that question

thanks black sheep I can manage the 20 hours bit as I will be job sharing when I go back problem is some weeks go over and some under but they will average to meet the criteria, I am 35 by the way and have never been out of work before so keen to get back when signed off ( which might not be until the end of the year btw as their might be more surgeries pending) but obviously cant be penalised (financially) for medically not being able to get back to full time otherwise it would make more sense to stay off, its gas that they never mentioned an exemption to me when I enquired, surely I would be more valuable long term if I was back in the work force and contributing!

thanks cheeus, I was led to believe it could be up to 3 years and that it would have to be medically backed as rehabilitation and then you where on your own, I would say that it might provide a niche for those who cannot get the back to work allowance as they are returning to a previous employer
