Help! car hire problem- credit card left behind

Hi. I wonder can anyone help. I arrived in Dublin today and have a car hired for 1 week. I left my wallet at homne and so wasnt able to get the car as they need a credit card with 1200 on it as a deposit. I rang a few of my mates and they all have less than 1000 euro. I have 5000 on my credit card and I know the number but that wasnt acceptable. if my mates lodge money to their cards it takes a few days to go through. They wont accept cash. Any solutions? Would appreciate any comments.

Probably not much use to you now but could the car hire firm not ring your credit card provider and arrange the cover over the phone. Seems a fairly inflexible approach. I'd certainly be looking for a word with the manager.
