Help- Bank closing my CC account

I have had an AIB gold mastercard for the last ten years, I have a number of direct debits arranged through it.

I have never had any financial difficulties, and generally pay off the full amount every month.

AIB have now decided to close the account ( they have offered me a platinum card). it was due to expire in 2011

Is there anything I can do to stop them, its more the inconvenience of setting up the direct debits again.

Why have they unilaterally decided to close the account?

It was a group scheme, with the irish medical organisation, they have also ended a similar scheme with the irish hospital consultants association. A letter in June stated that the program was ending at the end of july then they issue me with a new card and charged me 100 euro ( they will refund me pro rata).
