Hey everyone,

I need some help, I have been unemployed for over a year since I finished my Level 6 Higher Cert in Financial Services (not worth the paper its printed on!!!) from Athlone IT

I love health and fitness and I want to enrol in the NCEF Cert in Exercise and Health Fitness, it is a full time Level 6 course, but I cannot afford to fund it myself as it is almost €2700 and I am still trying to repay a previous college loan of €4000 and they bank will not give me any more money.

The Social welfare refuse to help me as the NCEF course is also a level 6 and is not seen as progression and they told me to ''Stay on jobseekers and apply for a level 7 or 8 for next September'' now I find that disgraceful and extremely confusing (no wonder the the state is in such debt) they expect me to claim money for another year only to do what I could do this year???!!! another 52 weeks of €144 is a waste. I also explained to the officer that I was almost guaranteed a job as a friend of mine is a leisure club assistant manager and promised me a job once I complete the course. I should also prob tell you that I worked in a leisure centre gym for 2+ years and hold a lifeguard qualification.

I'm really at odds on what to do I am really down as all my friends are now in their chosen careers or have headed off to Canada or Australia something that I cannot afford at this point in time.

The only bit of help I got was a grant of €500 from the Dept of Social Protection but even with that I am a long way off.

Does anyone know anywhere that I might be able to receive a grant or some form of funding to allow me to enrol in this course?

Health course

No expert on this- but can you undertake the course part-time and pay it back that way. Seems unusual that you cannot find a call centre job with the admin course you did- would u not consider the work placement option via FAS?
