Heir and Legatee

Hi there,

I recently received a letter from a US Attorney informing me I was a legatee along with 14 others following the death of a friend of mine in America. This letter also mentioned 10 heirs. Can anyone tell me the difference between an heir and a legatee and does this mean as a legatee I am going to receive something from the estate?
