Heating - Gas or Electricity?

Hi,
I am in the process of buying an apartment.
Does anyone have any opinions on wether it is better
to have an apartment with gas central heating or electrical?
How do the costs compare and the heating one gets from them?
I've always lived in an oil heated house so have no experience of either.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you run the search option in this forum or use Google you should plenty of previous discussion on this subject. Off the top of my head I would have though electricity was the most expensive but @ $100 dollars a barrel to-day that could be totally wrong.
