Hi all,

So the annual health insurance dilemma is upon me. We are a family of 5 - mum, dad and three children under 13.

We currently have Laya Connectcare for mum and dad - both in our 40's and dad has had knee surgery due to sport. When we tried to change to VHI last year they told me there would be no cover for orthopaedic surgery and this is essential for my husband so we did not move.

However, this year the cost will be 1,506.72 per adult and 216.42 per child, net. I think we need to move but I cannot figure out all of the plans. I would be willing to move to another provider if we could reduce my cost and that of the kids.

We just want cover for a semi-private room in a private hospital and a private room in a public hospital. And my husband needs orthopaedic cover just in case.

There are no other ongoing issues.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Mayogirl,

Quick question, when is your renewal date?

Options for the children;
VHI have half price plans for children from 1 August 2016, well worth considering.
Note; children can be insured with VHI, while the adults are with another provider. An adult is just named on the policy but only the children are
insured.
Details as follows;

1. One Plus Plan; price 137 per child; Public, private and hi-tech hospital cover, private/hi-tech excess 125 for admissions or day-case.

2. One Plan Complete; price 158 per child; Public, private and hi-tech hospital cover. No excess on this plan for hi-tech/private admissions or day-case.

Options for 2 Adults;
There are a couple of options with Laya worth considering, at better prices. Good orthopaedic cover as before. Details as follows;

1. Simplicity Plan; price 1087pa; public,private and hi-tech hospital cover, max excess 100 x 2 per year, day case 50 per visit. Good day to day
cover - first 100 not allowed. This plan covers a private room in both public and private hospitals.

2. Connectcare 100; price 1227pa( price reduced from 1/8/2016); public, private and hi-tech hospital cover, private/hi-tech excess 100 per admission or day-case. Good day to day cover as before - 1 euro excess.

There are plenty of savings to be made from 1st August 2016, without compromising on cover.

The prices that come into effect from 1 August 2016 will apply for 2 months at least, so your renewal date of 5/8/2016 is ideal to avail of the
reductions.

Thanks for those options. I never realised we could have our children insured with a separate insurer! That's great to know.
