Headlights problem

I have a 1.4 petrol Golf, 1996, which failed the NCT for one small thing. The left headlight is misbehaving. It is the same brightness on dims as on parking, but while on dims it is no where near as bright as the other one, and on parkers, it is way brighter than the other one. I seems to be stuck between brightness. I have tried replacing the bulb but no joy. Anyone had this before?

The power is not sided so it is a dodgy bulb again or connector, it it was a problem in the wiring it would have blown the fuse by now. When you put your main headlights on do they both come on?

Problem solved, there was a loose connection
