Have to Leave Job

Hi all,

I'm wondering anyone can give me a bit of advise. I work in sales, and am on a mostly commission job. However in the last few months, like everyone, my money has all but disappeared. My commission fell off to next to nothing, but now my employers are looking for pay cuts.

At this stage I'm paying out more than I take in. I can't afford the basics, and am going to get myself in serious trouble. I'm renting in Dublin. My best option is to move back home and look for work from there, or do something for myself. I am more or less set on handing in my notice in the next few weeks as there's no option for transfer.

Could anyone advice me how I should go about claiming jobseekers... I'm totally lost when it comes to it. I think I'm going to be making it hard for myself to claim it if I leave "voluntarily".

Thanks a million!

Can I suggest that you firm up on your plan before you hand in your notice. In the current environment, it will be very difficult for you to get work at home, or to start a business yourself.

Read the keypost guide for unemployed at top of this thread. This will help tell you how to go about claiming. There may be a disqualification for a number of weeks fro leaving work without 'good cause', but from what you say, (low income, moving home as you can't afford rent, etc) it's unlikely this would happen as you would seem to have 'good cause' for leaving. But make sure you state these reasons wehn completing the form.
