have to cancel holiday what are my best options?

Hi, I never had to cancel a trip before so wonder what my best options are.

I have booked Aerlingus flights to florida for two weeks on Jan1st.... cost €1300+ accommodation deposit of €300 is paid(which they are willing to change to a different date)

the family members I was due to meet in Florida(reason for trip) can no longer travel so I have to cancel my flights...as it is not a health issue I cant claim on my travel ins.
I plan on going to the NY at some stage next year so should I just change my ticket and live at the loss.
any advice would be appreciated.

You can change both dates and destinations of Aer Lingus Flights for a change fee (plus any difference/increase in original cost and the cost when you book your new flights).

thank you, that seems to be my only option...which makes it very expensive..
Florida flights are €1300 and NY are €1000 so that is a loss of 300 before I change the dates and destination
