Has anyone had a bad experience after buying a second hand car?

Hi there

I am looking to speak to anyone who may have had a bad experience with the purchase of a used car. It may be that you were ripped off, car fell apart or maybe there were outstanding payments to a financial institution. If so would you be willing to tell your experience live on air on Dublin City FM?
 
I think theres 2 sides to this, there are also people who buy used vehicles and expect the seller to remain responsible for the vehicle months after the purchase. I think if people are not mechanicly capable of inspecting a used car they should have a qualified mechanic inspect it for them before parting with any money. I dont think ignorance should be acepted as an excuse.
 
I totally agree with you and we are going to discuss what people should look out for but there are people out there who are genuinely ripped off too.
 
Yes I understand that there is, however if people were urged to use the services of the AA or a qualified mechanic before parting with any money there would be alot less chance you will get ripped off.

I have a friend who traveled to dublin in the summertime to buy a Ford Focus, It was reasonably priced and after speaking to the seller she decided to act fast as the seller had told her he had alot of interest and a few people calling to view the car, She bought the car the very next evening for €7000 and drove it home, the seller had told her he was awaiting the log book but would post it on when he recieved it, after a few days she tried to contact the seller about the logbook but the phone was dead, she contacted the DVLA in the UK to try and get the log book but was told the car was stolen and the insurance company was the owner of the car. To make a longer story short, she lost the car and her money, The Insurance Company asked for €6000 for her to buy back the car.

Id be happy to talk on or off air about it and my own expeirance but my veiw is solid, you wouldnt buy a house without having it well inspected so why buy the second most expencive item you are likely to spend your money on with out having it first inspected, Your Car !..
