Hi

I was looking for a garden shed and was looking in the argos catalogue and they have a 'metal shiplap shed' 100% galavanised steel, has anyone ever got one of them? you cant tell from the catalogue if they are sturdy etc and I was just wondering has anyone got one and what are they like? im looking for a long lasting sturdy shed, and to get them made costs a fortune. any advice?

We have a Yardmaster shed for many years now and it has served us well. We don't use it on a daily basis but merely for storage.

Is the type that you are thinking of?

There are many previous threads .

Just one point about the price if the OP is interested. If you input the catalogue number of the shed which interests you at the UK version of the Argos website which is www.argos.co.uk then you will find huge differences in price if you buy across the border in Newry for example.

Compare and contrast just these two different prices for the same shed with identical catalogue number:

Metal Shiplap Shed 8x6ft. 705/3469

€449.99

£299.99 pounds sterling which is €336.3

Thats a difference of 114 euro for just one shed I chose as an example.

The price difference is even larger depending on which shed you wish to purchase. Thats some profit margin they must have in the Republic is all I can say ...

[broken link removed] some profit margin they must have in the Republic is all I can say ...

I'm no apologist for Argos but in fairness, They probably have higher wages, more expensive rent/rates and higher utility bills to name but a few in the South

That's untrue as approximately €36 or almost one third of the difference is due to the shortsighted move by the Government in increasing the difference between the relevant VAT rate in Ireland and the UK.

They wont be selling it at cost price in the North therefore we can assume that the UK price already has a profit margin factored in. Subtract €36 and thats still some profit margin.

Hi,
Sue Ellen, I am looking for a shed for storage, ie the lawn mower etc, maybe a bit of fuel for the fire etc, I was looking at the sheds in Argos and was wondering are they durable!
Bullworth, I know there is a huge price difference, but dont think argos in the north would deliver south, €114 is a major saving! how do they get away with it?

Its true they wont deliver to the south but theres some companies which can accept delivery at an address in the North and deliver it to you in the south and still realise a substantial saving. One example company would be http://dealhunter.ie

(note I have no connection and never used them)

In saying that I'd try not to shop at Argos at all because I found the price differences just too suspicious across a huge range of products.
See my post here for an example:

About shed durability I can't comment but at least the more money you save the more durable a shed you can afford!

Our metal one is only placed on paving blocks so can get quite damp. If you wanted to store fuel for the fire and keep it dry/free from damp you would probably need a good base.

Security can be another issue if the lawnmower is an expensive one. We have to two locks on ours.

Our Yardmaster one has certainly been durable. Its probably about 15 years old by now.
