hopeing somone can give some advice with this my mother ordered a sofa and chairs from harveys in derry about 3 weeks ago as they had a 1 pound = 1 euro offer on so she paid 250 deposit, they have phoned her today saying that the only way she can get the offer now is to pay the rest of the amount before saturday otherwise she will have to pay the remaining balance in sterling can they do that ?

Was it written anywhere that this is only a limited time offer or was she told before hand that she would have to pay in full by a cetain time?

What does it say on her reciept? If there is nothing regarding the time limit and her reciept shows that she has "X" amount left to pay in euro, then i wouldn't budge on only paying that amount in euro.

Thats what they had on offer thats what she should pay.

no it wasnt written anywhere that it was limited time offer the salesman said that we would get the pound for euro the deposit was paid in euro and said the full amount would be paid when we got the suite.ive checked the invoice and it dosent mention anything about the deal it also doesnt have and currency symbols on it it just shows that 250 was paid in deposit and the amount thats left to pay it doesnt state that its euros or sterling.

So who called you to say that you had to now pay in sterling? Was it the sales man that took the initial deposit from you. Did he make a mistake? Or was it another sales man.

Legally speaking ( and i wouldn't take this as being right ) since there is not currency symbols on the invoice and nothing relating to a special offer, there might not be anything you can do. It might come down to your word against them.

You have 2 options that i can think of:-

1) you pay the remaining amount before saturday, and get your sofa, put it down that there robbing lying gits and never use them again!

2) wheather you have the money or not..... you refuse to pay the remaining balance untill the sofa is delivered, ( if they deliver it ) and then just pay them in euro and see what happens, or pay them the remaining balance at the steriling value.

Personally if it was me i would kick up a fuss, i hate it when companies do this kind of thing, tell you one thing and then go against what they said. Kicking up a fuss might be enough for them to drop the matter and honor their orginal agreement.
I would also want a damm good explanation as to why they have changed what they orginally said.

And then in saying that it would also come down to how much i liked the sofa.

well finally got this sorted kicked up a fuss like you said samantha and eventually it worked ! thanks for the advice i should be sitting on new sofas within the next week

have had blazing rows with harveys the last few wks tell your mum be careful she may never get her sofa i ordered mine in may same pound for euro i paid and i've been told i now have to wait til october for my sofa as they sold the one they had ordered for me. my advice stay well clear of them tell your mum get her money back and shop down south. they cause nothing but heart ache and they asr so rude aswell.

i'll stay away from them as well. currently having problem with this crowd as well. ordered since may failed to replace a damaged suite and broke the promise that if they can't find a good replacement they'll give us discount instead and the funny part is they said "we'll never get a perfect sofa". thinking of just cancelling our order and go somewhere else
