hand-painted tile?

Here's hoping someone can help - some builders working in my house last year broke one of the tiles surrounding the fireplace hearth. Since then, I've tried - and failed - to locate anyone in Ireland who can paint and fire a replacement tile.

The tile is farily simple in design, flowers and leaves, and has a 1910-ish arts and crafts look to it.

Any advice on where I could look for someone to do this? (I can supply the broken bits of the old tile to ensure good colour and design match; I even have a tracing of the tile from the opposite corner, which is still OK)

Any advice gratefully accepted!
 

Have you tried salvage yards for something similar?

Another option is to contact a pottery/ ceramics school and see if a student there would be interested in making it up for you.

anything similar there? There are loads of companies in England specialising in old tiles, maybe spend a while searching through their listings.


Or if you can't find an exact match would you consider just replacing the pair of them ( you mention the opposite corner so i'm assuming just two matching tiles)

Hi guys, thanks for the replies, and sorry for delay in reverting!

Woodbine - I'll have a look through that website later to see if there's a match. It wouldn't be possible to just lift out the opposite corner tile and replace both as the whole border of tiles around the hearth is in the form of a running stem or vine, with flowers off it, if that makes sense.

Mel and Leo - brilliant ideas which should have occurred to me! I'll contact the NCAD and see if they can point me to someone who can copy the hand-painted tile.

I have the name of a ceramics company that may be able to help, but I dont know if they are Ok with me putting their details on a website so I will PM you.
