Does anyone use a halogen oven & what do you think it - do you only use it to cook small amounts or would you roast a joint of beef in it. Thanks

Don't know about the halogen ovens but I think know the ones you mean. Seem like a good idea on the surface but me suspects that it will be gathering dust in that great kitchen cupboard heaven after a brief moment in the sun. Maybe someone else has bought one.
However as a side bar I was bowled over on the Gadget Show with the newest of Microwave combos where the LG and Samsung shone. Basically they cooked a full roast (except the gravy) and had a a food critic taste the results...he could not tell how it was cooked! I was seriously impressed.

I have a halogen oven, I love it, for €50 I find it a very handy piece of equipment. It is a bit on the big side from a storage point of view but I just keep it on the utility room counter. It wont cook meals for full families but is very handy for small amount, roasts a chicken fine, havent tried beef in it. Cooks oven chips or roast potatoes great, I also make scones in it, needs no preheating and can make 6 scones in approx 15/20 mins start to end.

There are loads of online ads for these things, they all exaggerate, it is not 3 times faster than normal oven, it is faster but not that fast, it browns food great unlike the microwave. They do not wash themselves whatever the ad says and in general other than the scones I don't find they bake particularly well as the heat does not get under the tins properly but in general for the money I find it very useful.
