Halifax vs Bank of Scotland Ireland

Are both same or different entities ? My broker tells me they are same but both seems to have different websites and different products/Rates. I am confused

If you look at the bottom of the Halifax webiste, you will see the following
message.

"Halifax is a registered business name of Bank of Scotland (Ireland) Limited. Bank of Scotland (Ireland) Limited is regulated by the Financial Regulator. Registered in Ireland Number 8545. Registered Office: Bank of Scotland House, 124-127 St. Stephen's Green, Dublin "
 
The Bank of Scotland (Ireland) name is still used for commercial banking AFAIK, and their retail banking uses the Halifax name.
 
I'm not sure that is true, you can still get residential mortgages with Bank of Scotland, and my residential mortgage is still with them, not Halifax.
 
Definitely Bank of Scotland and not Royal Bank of Scotland (Ulster Bank group)?
 
Halifax and Bank of Scotland (Ireland) are both part of Bank of Scotland (Ireland), however they operate separately.

  • Halifax don't offer commercial mortgages. BoSI do.
  • Halifax don't deal with brokers. BoSI do.
  • BoSI only offer residential mortgages through brokers, as far as I know.
  • Not all of their rates and offers are the same.
 
Halifax is the personal banking side of Bank of Scotland

Bank of Scotland used to be personal and business but i think now they split them & Halifax is for personal banking like credit cards and loans and mortgages and Bank of Scotland is for business customers . Bank of Scotland do home loans tho - theres info on their site
