Hi.

I lived and workded in the UK 3 years ago and had a National Insurance Number, address, and bank account with HSBC. I'm back in Ireland now.

I've just been looking at Halifax's ShareBuilder service where you can buy shares on a very small scale and have commission at a very low rate.

It lets you purchase just £20 of shares each month, which is very attractive for a pauper like me! I would like to play small and then perhaps, get bigger.

Now, one of the conditions is that you must be resident in the UK...

1. Would there be anything to stop me from participating in this service since I still have a bank account open over there?

2. Also, what is the best way to lodge money into my UK account from here?

(You can participate in the ShareBuilder service by using Direct Debit from another bank account; you don't seem to need a Halifax bank account)

3. Are there any similar small share buying services run by the Irish banks?

4. Are sharewatch still the cheapest company to buy shares with in Ireland for small amounts?

Thanks in advance,

K.
