Read in paper today that Zoom airlines are now flying from Belfast to Halifax - has anyone been there??

I have never been there but i have met many people from Nova Scotia and they are very nice freindly people Scoties they are called in othere parts of Canada

I was there about 10 yrs ago and its a lovely place .a hire car would be best option to travel to surrounding areas, ferry to prince edward island etc. not too many star attractions there ,but its a lovely part of the world to visit especially in the fall or summer, forget about winter.

Just back from a trip around Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Halifax itself is a very pleasant city, not necessarily a whole lot of things to do while you're there if it's hectic sightseeing you're after, but a good place to hang out with plenty of really good restaurants and pubs.
If you're planning on spending any length of time in the area I'd say hiring a car is a must. Nova Scotia has a fantastic coastline. The Lighthouse Trail heading west from Halifax travels through pretty villages right around to the Acadian (French-speaking) villages of the west and north western coast. To the northeast is Cape Breton - the Cabot Trail through the Cape Breton Highlands is breathtaking and I'd say the trip is worth it for that experience alone.
People were incredibly friendly everywhere we went and the seafood was just fantastic.

Many thanks for that. It sounds lovely. I would be going in August - any idea what the weather would be like then??Don't like very hot weather.......

Should be perfect for you in August so. Think it stays around early 20s in most parts. May to September are considered the ideal months for travelling in the Maritimes. We travelled as off season as you can get, but from what people said to us it did sound as if things get fairly hectic at the height of summer. If I was travelling then I'd certainly book accommodation in advance.

Hi Nic,

Did you fly with Zoom ? and how was that ?

Are there Mozzies around during the summer time ?

Thanks

I Flew Zoom from Gatwick to Montreal at Christmas this year and Ihave to say it was one of my better experiences flying internationally. The return flight left later than the regular airlines at 11pm and I was able to fall asleep during takeoff and awoke for breakfast which was standard food. The planes and staff were really nice, the inflight entertainment was 1 movie, you have to purchase your headphones, that sort of thing, butlike I said I was able to sleep (which was a first) so I found it great!
I would recomend Fly Zoom.
Also love the Maritimes as I went to University there. Loads to see, let me know if you're still loooking for sightseeing suggestions. One place you can't miss is the Bay of Fundy with the highest tides in the world!

We actually flew with Air Canada from Dublin via Heathrow. Came across a few people from Britain while we were away who'd flown with them and they seemed to think they were fine.
The flight to Halifax is short enough anyway, about 6 hours, and while Air Canada was fine I think I'd happily sacrifice the dubious pleasure of watching Casino Royale for free for a cheaper flight.

I agree nic -

Are there Mozzies around during the summer time ?

Yes Mozzies are Mosquitoes !

Ahh you learn something new everday. Now I'm done.

There are Mozzies but they're not too bad. If you use the repelant they stay away and are usually only around in the evening and not in the city centre like Halifax. It's been a while since I was out there so I may stand corrected.
