I have some sympathy of the Gunther's observation.

Granted "flag lowering" might not be the ideal way for "default sinners" to demonstrate contrition but since were talking symbolism why not get Bertie & the Bankers to camp out in some doorway in sackcloth and ashes?

I think that might be equally effective as an act of symbolism.
