Guitar purchasing online....

We tend to discuss bad service, failure to deliver on what was promised or incorrect billing quite a lot on AAM, so, here is a good news story. I ordered a guitar online on Monday afternoon from an Irish based company.....The 'free' delivery time quoted was 3-5 working days I think...It was delivered by courier the following morning !! This is the first time I did business with these guys and would highly recommend them ! Not sure if I can mention their name re; AAM rules etc. so if anyone is interested PM me and I'll send you their URL.

(Just proof reading this I've realised that by delivering the next day they failed to do what they said vis-a-vis 3-5 working days ;) )

afaik, theres only 1 irish music store who deliver free after taking an order online, hope the business model works for them as they really cant compete with the bigger boys in germany on the bottom figure price. Who delivered for them?

I can't remember CAR but it was a normal courier company.....Not a DHL job !

Which store is this?

Feel free to name them R2. Rules relate to [broken link removed] and declaring any potential [broken link removed].

i couldn't buy a guitar on line - i would need to play it and get a feel for it. last summer i was going to get a fender jazz master from a certain store in town who said they could order it for me but wanted 1/2 the money up front which was 500e deposit - this was fine except for what happens when it arrives and i don't like it? i put this to the chap and he understood this obviously as he was a musician but thats the way it is. you can certainly buy cheaper on line but i'd just have to feel it first. any musician reading this would know what i mean.
nice one with the delivery though! very impressive.

Ok....No conflict of interest as I have no affiliation to this organisation etc. They are called [broken link removed].......

Yep, understand what the last poster is referring to re; playing the instrument. On this occasion I was buying a cheapo accoustic just to mess around with so I didn't feel it mattered that much. For those more experienced than me, is there a massive difference between one guitar and another (exactly the same model)...As in, could you try one out in a shop and buy it online if you were happy with it ?

Couldn't agree more... Some guitars may look great but have all the handling of a bus. I wouldn't be spending a lot of cash on an online purchase. Might be perfect for learning though!

regarding the differences between models is a tough one i reckon. my thoughts would be that the cheaper (under 500e) guitars that are mass produced machine made have very little differences between them. i would be reasonably confident that if i saw a guitar downtown for 400e and played it and liked it and it was 300e online that i could order it safely enough. but this is a chance to take. i would never advise someone to do this. as i said in an earlier post, i was looking for a fender jazz master which is about 1000e. this isn't stocked in town in any of the shops so it looks like a trip to liverpool for the weekend, try it out and if it suits, bring it back. i believe that at that level of guitar there can be quite a difference.
example: cousin of mine has a les paul studio - cost US$1200 in a pawn shop in miami 10 years ago - i have played 3 les paul studios in my time and none of them play like my cousins. and thats an expensive guitar.
i suppose bottom line, you just have to check it out before you buy it.
sorry for rambling.....

Best guitar (bass) I ever played was bought online from bassnw in the states, worst guitar (6 string) for value I ever played was an 1800e white custom les paul bought off ebay, beautiful looking but horrible to play.

Have to say, the prices on that 247guitar site are exceedingly tasty, good find.

The irish site I was referring to above was www.audiocity.ie , delivery in ireland is 10e (someone had told me it was free). not a great range though.

I bought the Garisson AG400.....Two of my mates played it on Saturday last and couldn't believe it was only €275....Much bigger sound than my semi accoustic Tak 360 !! And, if I drop it or the kids knock it over it's no big deal !
