Recently back home in England from a trip over for a family wedding.

Wedding was held at the Brackencourt Hotel in Balbriggan. Far too much food after the wedding (very nice for mass catering). We are both getting too old for the late night which followed, and gave in at about 01.00. Fortunately our room was far enough from the function room so that we didn't hear ant further revelries.

MrsK and I stayed at a few hotels during the two weeks we were over. Pride of place has to go to the Hodsons Bay Hotel on Roscommon RD, Athlone. So good we stayed there twice. Same suite on each occasion, 644.

Great views over the Lough; Jacuzzi bath and walk-in shower in the bathroom; very comfortable bed.

Breakfast in the Octagon restaurant was good, coffee and toast brought to your table, eggs cooked to order.
Dinner in the main restaurant was excellent. Michael Dolan, restaurant manager, was a real star. Young waitress, Jana, very good.

Good spa facilities which MrsK took full advantage of.

We will certainly stay there again the next time we're over.

Remainder of the time we stayed with family.

Problem coming back over as Irish Ferries texted to say that the Swift sailing was cancelled due to adverse weather. I suspect that this wasn't strictly true as when we got to Dublin Port for the slow ferry there were very few cars waiing to board. Still, IF returned the cost of the return half of the trip, so the only downside was that we got to the Hotel we were booked into in Wales at 01.30 instead of mid afternoon.

If anyone wants a good stopover on Anglesey the Lastra Farm Hotel is highly recommended.

Spent a night in the Mullingar Park Hotel while we were travelling round. Dinner in the restaurant was as good as we've had anywhere in the world - absolutely superb.

We always book a twin room on our travels as the rooms tend to be bigger; this was certainly true at this hotel as we had two 5ft beds, sofa, desk and chairs.

Two nights in the Westport Plaza hotel; again very comfortable. Great crack at the sister hotel across the courtyard on the second night.
