grass seed

my dog has formed a running track around the edge of the garden.all the grass has gone,i need to sow grass seed on this and was wondering when is the best time to do this?should i sow the seed when its dry out and is this the right time of year?any advise would be much appreciated.

Late Sept./early Oct. is recommended time to plant lawn seed.
