a friend has got an interview for a place on a graduate programme with ernst and young and it is her first real interview any advice on what she is likely to be asked will it be the usual type questions has anyone done one of these placements any advice welcome
They are fairly handy interviews.
I did similare for KPMG, PwC and Deloittes a few year ago. (E&Y didnt give me an interview!)
They really are just checking that you are a normal person...........you get the interview based on academic results so they know already that you have the brains but they need to make sure that you have social skills as well!
If she's in college tell her to go to her careers service - they'll arrange for her to do a mock interview of the type she can expect at E&Y - even one dry run beforehand can help calm her nerves as to what to expect.
Sounds like a recipe for disaster. I've been the interviewer for these interviews. The candidate needs to have a clear strategy to stand out from the many other students with strong results who will appear for interview. Think through some clear, credible achievements (academic projects, voluntary activities, work experiences) which will give you an edge.
You also need to show yourself to be flexible, enthusiastic, not too cocky, good team player.
she has had the interview on last wednesday one week ago now they told her she would hear from them on friday or monday last the latest but she has heard nothing she is putting another job offer on hold as she would rather the e& young one would it be ok to ring or e mail and ask if they had made a decision on the job
Generally if they tell you that they will contact you by a certain date then thats the date that the rejection letter will reach you. If you have been accepted then you'll get a call a few days before that so i'm sorry but I'd nearly go for the other job. You can always keep looking for a big 4 though it thats what you want. The contracts aren't iron proof, i've know plenty of people who just pull out of them. Doubt there gonna start a lawsuit against some poor student!
