Hi all

I went to cancel my AIB credit card today , they told me that i had to pay the govenment charge of €40 first or leave there as a balance.
I told them that it was an April to April charge and since i am cancelling before the time surely i should not have to pay a fee for something i am not using.
They told me it was a government issue and nothing to do with AIB policy. Anyone else had this experience ?.

They can get stuffed as i am in no way paying it....

See [broken link removed] for how it worked up to [broken link removed] when the rules were changed to avoid this charge being levied more than once in any single tax year.

You will not get out of paying this if it is due to the Government and if you leave it on the card it will simply start attracting interest charges.
