Government fees when buying a house

I have just got a quote from a solicitors for the purchase of a house for a relation (relation is 1st time buyer & house is in Dublin). I was given a price of 990 + VAT . I was also told there was government fees which would bring the total cost up to near 2K, but wasn't told what exactly these fees where - what exactly would these other fees be? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Most likely Land Registry/Registry of Deeds fees, stamp duty (on the property and/or mortgage) etc. See this thread:

Note that flat fee conveyancing offers are normally €x + VAT + outlays where €x is the only fixed part known a priori since it is the solicitor's professional conveyancing fee.

Land Registry: 500 + 125
Law Searches: 200
Folio Copy: 25
Commissioners: 75
Postage:121
