Ive been working for a pharmaceutical company for three years with a recruitment agency. They informed me today that I wont be coming back after xmas :-(

After seeing the budget last night im not sure what im entitled to. Im 25 no dependent children. I own a house with my ex-boyfriend ( which he lives in and rents out one room) I pay the difference. Im living back at home and I have a car loan and bank loan.

Am i only entitled to 150 a week?

Has anyone any idea what I can do about my mortgage and loans?? Will my bank just expect me to pay the 79 a week personal loan i have out of my 150?

Thanks for all your help in advance.

Re: Got left go today need advise on what I can claim.

As you have been working, you can claim Jobseeker's Benefit which isn't affected by the new age-related rates of payment.

The age-related rates only apply up to and including age 24 in any case.

Have a look at the Guide for Unemployed Persons sticky post in the Redundancy forum for more information on claiming Jobseeker's.

Cant be certain but afaik ....
You will receive Jobseekers Benefit (€196 from Jan 1st) for the first year or thereabouts which is your entitlements by PRSI and not means tested. Sign on immediately from the day you are told not to come into work again as your entitlements only start on the day you actually sign.
I'm afrad you will need to talk to your ex about the mortgage payments and sort it out BUT mention you will need to sell as you cant afford this and see if that gets you some breathing space. As regards the bank loan you may need to cut your losses and sell the car OR explain the situation to the bank and try to get a more amicable agreement for the short term. Bottom line though is to not hide or ignore the issues, deal with them as best you can and lenders will be favorable.
Good luck

Re: Got left go today need advise on what I can claim.

With regard to your mortgage & bank loan, you will not qualify for any help with your mortgage as firstly, you are not living in the house & secondly, even if you were if your ex-boyfriend is working more than 29 hours a week, you would not qualify, so you should consider renting out another room (if there is one) to help you meet your repayments.

Alternatively, you could approach your lender to see if you could perhaps go onto an interest only option for a set period pending review, until such a time that your financial circumstances improve.

Regarding your bank loan, you could approach your lender, advise them of your change in circumstances & discuss the possibility of restructuring your loan in order to reduce your repayments. They might agree to extend the period of the loan.

You should consider making an appointment with your local MABS office, who could advise you further. They could also approach your lenders on your behalf, which might be the better option for you. There is a backlog for appointments, so I would advise you to make an appointment as soon as possible.

Meanwhile you could have a look at their website for advice on how to go about doing this yourself. They provide sample letters to send to lenders, & guidelines on how to go about doing it.
