Ive just got a summons in court for tax that was already paid. My accountant just checked the online system and he says its paid. Ive also rang the tax office and Im awaiting a callback.
Is this common? Surely mistakes like this dont happen? Im in an absolute state!
Is this the first communication about this tax liability that you have received? It would seem odd that the first communication about any alleged problem would be a summons! Do you not have receipt of payment for the relevant tax liability? Who issued the summons, for what court and for what specific offence?
Its not the first communication, there was letters last year looking for outstanding tax and VAT. The matter however was paid in full and Ive just had a look and found receipts for the VAT however not for the tax, I'll keep looking. My accountant however says that its coming up on ROS as paid.
Im not some fool coming on here who hasnt paid and is chancing his arm, Im genuinely perplexed and very stressed about this.
They have a nice big courtroom there for all the tax summonses. Quite airy but very poor seating for the legal professionals.
Anyway, get in touch with the Revenue's solicitor, find out who in the Revenue is dealing with it, get in touch with them personally, you should be able to sort it out. Don't panic yet.
If it is on ROS as paid, under the payments tab then it should alos give a receipt number. your accountant should be onto the revenue asap quoting that receipt number.
