Google search results Hijack virus problem

Ive an old pc with XP installed. Ive noticed that on google searches, when I select any of the links provided some hijack virus is redirecting to other search software and spurious links.
Ive tried cleaning it with a program called 'hijackthis' and deleting suspicious registry entries etc , but Ive still got it!
Can anyone recommend another clean up program that worked for them, as Im unlikely to be the only one infected by this.

There is plenty in that thread on the general issue of keeping your PC clean and the thread is regularly updated/appended to.

If you are using Internet Explorer have you tried another browser such as FireFox to see if the problem is browser specific or more general than that?

We had a problem last week with our homepage opening as a different page telling us in big red letters that we were at risk etc. and we tried everything to get rid of it as in spybot,adaware etc and in the end the only programme that got rid of it was called Prevx 1.The website is

Tried that program, but problem still there. Will update systems and Browser to IE7 and see if that clears it next.
