Google launch Google Talk - talk & IM

It's for US customers only but will be rolled out to other countries in time.

It's back to Skype for me for now, anyway!

Are you sure about that? I know it says you need a US mobile to request an invitation code for Gmail but it seems to suggest existing Gmail users can use the service and it may be possible to get invitation code if you know any Gmail users.
 
AFAIK, the Google Talk and IM services are only available in the US, but anyone can get Gmail (if anyone wants and invitaion, send me a PM).
 
No.. google talk and im services are available to all gmail users.
To become a gmail user, you need to be invited by an existing gmail user or else you have to have an american mobile phone to sign up from the web.

Hmmm - well, I've installed it.

Now all I need to do is get someone else that I know who uses Gmail to sign up and try it out!!!

Yeah, I stand corrected, I've been able to download it as well.
