I'm looking to get some guideance on a health matter. GP has been engaged but is a bit dismissive so I was looking to get some research on the issue before considering further alternatives.

Just wondering if anyone has used or would recommend any of the Doctors on Line type sites as a first step or any website which might help rule in or rule out potential concerns?

Any advice would be appreiciated.

Roger

www.patient.co.uk is an excellent site, with information for patients, as well as more in-dept information for doctors.
It also has links to support groups etc for various conditions.
The information I have accessed there has been accurate to date.

There's also Netdoctor http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/ too, but I've only ever glanced at it, so I'm not sure how useful it is.

As you are no doubt aware we do not allow discussion of medical issues on AAM. I reproduce below the full Posting Guideline which was composed a few years ago but still contains some useful links.

20. Please don't discuss medical issues including weight loss.

We do not discuss medical issues other than to provide links to support groups and medical forums. We do not allow recommendations for doctors, dentists or medical practitioners generally. We do not allow discussion of weight loss issues either as they always develop into either advertising or medical topics such as anorexia.

You may discuss tax relief on medical expenses and pricing of medical services or health insurance.

It is ok to provide information on the availability of emergency doctors or 24 hour pharmacies.

But you should not discuss effectiveness of treatment or quality of care.

Below are some sites which are better equipped to deal with such issues. We got the following sites from The (London) Times

I suffered from sciatica about a year ago. I am left now with sharp pain in my foot coming and going.
Has anybody had any experience of this? If you did was it cured and if so how was it treated? The doctor has told me that it will go eventually but it has been going on too long mnow.

Hi,

As mentioned above by AJPale we don't allow discussion of medical issues as per posting guideline 20. Please refer to the web sites recommended for advice.
