All,
My husband got made redundant in July, invested every penny he got into new business immediately (it was not much)..We didnt go on hols or sit in thinking what next we moved very quickly to get going on this new business. He now is sole trader and is busy in gas heating and plumbing.Always was part of huge companies so was a big culture shock to him but it is going well.
Now we would like to advertise and spread our wings just a little. I would like to start with a website. As cash is not free flowing I have to start small and get a website made that will be functional but not anything super for the minute. Everyone looks up the NET for services so we are missing out on business! any suggestions on what way to go about getting one made up?? thanks so much! Excited for 2012 - REcession aint going to stop us!
;)

There was an article in the Sunday Times last Sunday on this topic - details of how to go about setting up your own web site with examples from people who have done it - without any technical knowledge. Can't remember what section it was in but it was probably the Business section. Good luck with the business.

im not sure but I think Vistaprint set up websites for free or reasonable enough .....

I bought business cards for my uncle for them, 250 for 11 euro and I was v happy with them...

Worth a look

You will get freelance 'geeks' on any of these sites;

elance.com
freelancer.com
odesk.com

The quality of the workmanship - just like any other line - will vary. Read the profiles, portfolio and feedback carefully. Also, be very very specific in what you are asking for - the more specific you are, the more likely you are to get exactly what you need.

Has your husband looked into advertising his trade using the specialised trades websites such as -

www dot tradesmen dot ie

www dot findatradesman dot ie

www dot ebuilders dot ie

www dot onlinetradesmen dot ie

http://www.finda*************

If you have even basic PC skils, I find www.weebly.com v good for creating sites and can be easily upgraded. Best of luck, the country needs more people like you and your husband.

I highly reccommend conor murray design. He did my own website and made it a very simple process at a good price. No connection other than been a customer

advice?

thanks everyone for all your suggestions, I have been busy trying to pick a domain name and get things moving...

My husband actually had a job interview last week for a normal permanent PAYE job.. He had the 1st round last Aug and well this interview was more like the actually job offer.. Great money, bit of extra travel per day i.e. 1 hour drive to work and back.. however its permanent and at least 1 yr at that location but after the next lcoation will be somewhere in ireland.. could be further from home...
He decided to turn it down on those grounds and keep goingon this new company... now they have called again and are increasing the offer by another 5k.. which will bring money up a lot more and have added in benefits and also said they only want him etc....
We are now back to SQ one with a big decision as it is a great offer...... I told him to go with his GUT anyway and where he is happiest.....

So any advice? Can we keep this company going in line with him being a PAYE? He could still do work in evenings or on weekends, he has a few guys who are looking for the work so we could act as the project managment for the job? Would he still get the back to work enterprise allowance if he goes back to PAYE, this is due to run out in July anyway...
