Good place for a car service.

My car needs a service and some replacement parts (rear brake pipes, front brake pads etc) but the south Dublin Honda dealer I bought it from is looking for a very large sum of money.

Can anyone recommend an alternative garage on Dublin's south side where I could get the job done for a reasonable price?

I used Tony McCann Motors in Blackrock for some car trouble I had 18 months ago... did a good job at a reasonable price.
 
Bobby Doyle Autos in Clondalkin is very reasonable and honest as regards work that needs to be done on your car. Based just past Newlands X heading to Clondalkin from Belgard Rd and 2nd turn on left ( as far as I remember) Can give you phone number if you need it.
 
ISA Autos in Brookfield Terrace Blackrock is where I go. They are usually booked up by about a week.
 
Whatever you go with, get the garage to stamp the service history book. In comparison with Engish drivers, in Ireland for no reason at all, we voluntarily devalue our cars by not insisting that the book be stamped for each service.

Hello Jesky 25. My first choice was ISA Autos in Blackrock, as suggested by SoylentGreen, but their opening hours didn't suit.

I went with Mechanic on Duty in Montrose in the end. Simply because I work near there and I'd dealt with them before for small jobs and they had a special offer for a full service.

They seemed to do a good job but the car failed the NCT the next day. The cv joints on the steering had failed and grease got onto the brakes, a potentially dangerous situation. I went back to them and they initially said they didn't have a free slot until the following week but I insisted they do it that day. They fixed the problem and gave me a full refund for the retest. They apparently send cars out to another garage for wheel tracking as they don't have that facility themselves and they reckon the problem happened there.

Another (small) thing was that they didn't valet the car after the service, as other garages do. I know this is an extra but it would have made a difference.

While they were friendly and professional to deal with, I was annoyed at what had happened. I can't say I wouldn't go back there but I would have second thoughts.

Illedlledlled, I just realised that I didn't check the service history book afterwards, as I normally do! Will check it tonight.

If you didn't insist on it, I doubt they stamped it. Drives me nuts that garages don't do this out of habit. Then again, if Paddy doesn't care about it, why should they?

I even left a service history book face-up on the passenger seat for a service in a main dealer, and they didn't twig to open & stamp it!

I'm sure they'll stamp it in retrospect if you ask them within a reasonable timeframe though.

Believe it or not they stamped it! The question of the service book didn't even enter my mind when I left the car in. I checked the other night and there it was. I suppose that's a vote in their favour. In my own experience, garages always stamp the book, though I've mostly dealt with main dealers.
