Good Hotels in Central Rome and Venice

Hi
Spending 10 days in Italy, late Nov,early Dec, visiting Rome and Venice. Can you recommend good reasonably priced hotels in central Rome and Venice ?

We stayed in Locanda Art Deco while in Venice. Its really nice and only a 5-10 minute walk from St Marks Square & Rialto bridge.

In Rome we stayed in Hotel Gabriella

Its near Termini Train station and about 15 minute walk from Trevi fountain. Most of the sights are within walking distance bar the Vatican.

I've just booked Albergo Piave in Rome for my parents next year. Its also near Termini. It got good reviews on

http://www.venere.com (www.venere.com) is a website i found on this site it's great has maps linked to the hotels so you can see how close you are, everything is very close in venice
 
Personally I would be wary of venere.com, we booked through them last year and ended up in a total dive which we left after one sleepless night, as it was nothing like it was advertised,( it was dirty,remote,noisy,tiny and far from the 3* 2 bed apartment close to St Peters we booked) we had to pay in full on arrival despite venere stating payment was due on departure and had to fight for a refund for 4 unstayed nights, our "review" of the accommodation was removed after a week despite being completely factual and venere never responded to our complaints.

10 minutes walk from Termini and within easy walking distance of many popular attractions. Staff were all bilingual and more than happy to assist us any way they could. There is a metro station about 2-3 minutes walk away if you want to explore - when we were there a metro pass cost 75c for time limited travel on any route and tons of shops and eateries nearby.
