If economy and tax are your main concerns, go for the diesel.
If they are not then why not spend a little extra and get the GTI
Economy will not be as good as a cooking 1.4 due to the supercharger being in use from idling speed regardless of whether or not you use a lot of throttle. Driven quickly it'll actually be fairly heavy on fuel. The GT comes in 140 bhp and 170 bhp. Yep
Drove both and loved them, the GTI is 1.8t and is being robbed from peoples houses for sport at the moment ask your ins company. It's a 2.0.
This is a lovely car with 1.4 on the tax book and insurance. Not on the list of cars people are getting robbed, has the economy of 1.4 (if you drive it properly) and no dirty diesel smell or noise.
Thanks for the feedback. One of the reasons I would not consider the GTI is the fact that it would be a real target and I would be afraid of being broken into for the keys.
I am hoping that the GT will not get the same reputation because of the fast engine.
If a thief wants your car badly enough, he will somehow get it.
