Im hoping to go back to work after maternity leave 3 days per week, probable Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, Full 7.5 hour days in health service. I know I gain 2 days per week at home with my little daughter which will be great and maybe my hubby can have some of my TFA, but what else do I have to worry about?? will I lose anything like pension or other benefits etc. Bit clueless about all this stuff.

Please help as my decision has to be finalised very soon and I want to make sure its worth my while....

Re: Going to work Part time 3 day week???

If you're paying Superannuation in the HSE, you'll only pay 3/5 of a week towards your pension (i.e. for every calendar week you are employed, you're only adding 3 days to your pension year) This means you will take longer to reach the maximum reckonable service of 40 yrs.

Ah ha so Ill either get less at retirement or will have to add years on is that it?? I also pay into an AVC at the moment so would it be advisable to keep paying that when working the 3 days ( I had kinda thought I would stop paying it to save some money, maybe thats not advisable??)
Thanks Gipimann for the help...

If anything you might need to increase you AVC's as I know from other people talking here that the deduction is based on your salary.

Now I know nothing about AVC's as I'm one of these public servants who will 40 years full service by the time I'm 59 so I'm hoping I'll be on a brillant wage by then.
