Godson - duties and responsibilities of godparent

Ok, I've become godparent to my nephew, what do I *practically* have to do ? Whats reasonable to expect/deliver ? (My family were never big on social/family events)

- Am living in same city as godson but lead a busy life.
- The child has no grand-parents to help out his (working) parents.

Have an active relationship with the child, treat him bit more special than your regular nephews/nieces, Dont forget birthdays, Christmas gifts etc (I dont mean money/big gifts but special presents/trips etc). Youll have a role in the Confirmation (and Communion you'll get a nice photo opportunity).

We dont play any role in childminding our godchildren, perhaps others do! Or our children's godparents dont either. We'v two god children and thats enough for us now.

Depends on family. Some take the religious element of it very seriously others don't.
I'd agree with Sandals assessment; don't forget birthdays & Christmas!

As a parent I would suggest spending time with the child. Eg (in the future) take him to a match or the cinema. Take him to your house for pizza and a DVD. Simple things and a bit of attention.
