Hi - me and my wife recently seperated. She is a Peruvian antional with a GNIB 4 stamp card. She has also just lost her job - she had been working since she arrived here in Ireland just over two years ago. Would she be entitled to claim Unemployment assistance (she has not been paying stamps long enough for Unemployment Benefit) ? And if so would it affect her if she makes an application for citizenship in the future?
Thanks in advance.

Are you legally separated? Is she still fulfilling the GNIB conditions, granted as your spouse? If she is, then she can claim JA. Are you sure she is not entitled to JB? She may be entitled to 'pre-entry credits' to cover 2008 if she hasn't enough contributions paid in that year but satisfies the otehr conditions. See keypost for qualifying conditions.

Hi - no we are just living seperately. Will have to take a look at the GNIB conditions. I called Citizens advice and they told me she is not entitled to JB. thanks

On what basis did they 'decide' this? They have no access to her record. worh checking with SW who can check it.

P.S. what's with the change of username?

If not, she will not get her visa renewed next time by the GNIB and will (should) then have to leave the country. To get her visa renewed you will have to show up as the happy husband, they were just requiring the spouse to be present for the first renewal, but I now hear they are required each time.
