I am looking for an effective DIY method of removing carpet adhesive from a concrete floor. I have heard that Ammonia mixed with equal amounts of water and detergent and applied using a deck scrubber can be effective. Has anybody ever tried this? Alternatively, is there any type of specialised floor cleaning machine that could be used and may be available to hire?

Petrol. Be very careful using either petrol or ammonia in confined spaces. I have used petrol, it's very effective on carpet adhesive and indeed residual rubber backing from carpet.

That's interesting. So how exactly is the petrol applied to the adhesive? By using a cloth and rubbing it in?
