I am about to book two weeks in a gite in Britanny via Britanny Ferries for myself and family. The rep in in the ferry company quoted us €200 for insurance. Does anyone know what this is for (apart from the obvious i.e. car, travel, heath care etc), and is it necessary considering that the payment for the entire holiday will be made with Visa (and there may be some cover there, and we also have BUPA health care. Are E111 forms still used to claim health care in foreign countries?

And check with your car insurance company - overseas trips with your own car may well be included in your policy as long as you notify them in advance.
If you find that you really must buy insurance for the trip, make sure to shop around - there are plenty of places to biy travel insurance
