Gifts for hospital

My dad passed away recently and we (the family) would like to show our appreciation to the staff that were on duty over the period (three weeks), this involves about 20 staff over two shifts between nurses, trainee nurses etc., looking for some sort of ideas on what would be an appropriate gift for all 20 (flowers are no longer allowed in hospital).

Sorry for your loss, What about a basket of chocolates and treats that they can eat during their break? That way they can all avail of the gift?
 
We gave a sum of money for their 'christmas party'. Think nurses get sick of chocolates.
 
I noticed a sign for a candy bouquet in the Coolmine Industrial Estate, Dublin 15. It might be nicer than the usual chocolate boxes. I just googled them and got info on franchises but they might be in the phonebook?
 
A voucher (or vouchers) for a nearby restaurant which when received can be raffled off.
Bottles of wine.
 
If its public healthcare individuals are contractually obliged not to accept gifts over a certain value from ex-patients or family but the institution would accept a charitable donation. To get round this (I work in the health service....chocolates definitely a no-no!!!) you might give the unit something like a month's entry voucher to a nearby sauna or pamper-spa which are good stress-busters.

How does this get round the contractual obligation?
 
I can see where you are coming from, my own employer does not allow me to accept gifts of more than a 'nominal' value (currently about €20 I think).

It would have to be a very mean-spirited employer however which would discipline health care staff for accepting a thank you present of this nature.

Can I suggest you talk to the Nursing manager - or the Assistant Dir of Nursing (they used to be called Matron/Deputy Matron in the old days!).

They may be able to suggest something for the staff room (Microwave, radio whatever) or the family room. It might be a better use for your money than the usual stuff and also all the staff will benefit.
