Has anyone been there? What is the best way to get there from Dublin and Belfast? What about accomodation? Lastly, does anyone know when the October half-term will be this year? October 31st is on a Sunday so will it be the previous or following week?

It’s a dump. It’s worth a day trip, as you can see everything there is to see, which is very little, in a day, but that’s about it. You’d be better visiting it as part of a holiday to southern Spain (i.e. Marbella, Estapona, Malaga, etc.). The October public holiday is on Monday 25th October this year.

I wouldn't say its a dump, but I would agree its just a day trip as part of a spain holiday. Enjoyable day out - seeing the apes etc.

Re: Mid-term break in Oct.

Hols run from Tuesday 26th October to Friday, 29th October.

Re: Mid-term break in Oct.

Wait 'till you see how many primary schools will mysteriously feel the need to hold "staff meetings" the previous Friday and require you to collect your kids by 12.30...

Agree with PMU - see it as a day trip, and worth doing.
I went there about a year ago. Took one of the taxi tours up the rock. Great views - all the way to Africa.
Slightly reminiscent of Hong Kong before 1997, but a bit faded and shabby. The area on the Spanish side of the border looked extremely run-down.

Re: Mid-term break in Oct.

worth taking a day trip alright - cheap ciggies & booze there also..

keep in mind there is a border and may take up to an hour and a half each way to get through. Thats what hapended us anyway. Only thing worth while was the cheap bottles of whiskey and rum we got!

I have been there twice and its great. LOts to see + do for a few days, and the people far more friendly than the Spanish.
